What is spring lash shed and why does it happen?

Twice a year, in the spring and in the fall, our bodies shed more hair than usual. Much like our furry friends shed, so do humans (some clients think they have the same eyelashes since they were born). As the days get longer, the additional sunlight tells our hormones that warmer weather is coming and to shed body hair to help keep us cool. An individual’s shedding season may last anywhere from four to six weeks.

There is not a whole lot you can do to prevent spring shed, but practicing stellar aftercare will certainly help.

If you have been getting lash extensions for a while now, you may notice that your precious fans are falling out faster (it’s normal to lose three to five natural lashes per day). There is not a whole lot you can do to prevent spring shed, but practicing stellar aftercare will certainly help. The rise in allergies and oil production can cause extra buildup on the lash line. Keep your lashes clean with a cleanser and brush formulated specifically for lash extensions.

You may find yourself needing more frequent lash fills during your shed season. If you notice this happening, you may want to book a weekly touch-up to keep your lashes looking fierce and protect your investment. Lovewinq offers mini fills and mini classic sets for our clients who find themselves needing a little extra fluff.
